Streaker Boat Sales & Class Information
The Streaker is a single handed one design sailing dinghy . A popular boat for racing and pleasure suitable for a wide range of abilities from relative beginner to racer. With a minimum hull weight of 48kg and a simple rig she’s easy to handle both on the shore and water. The Streaker works with the helm providing the inexperienced sailor with a stable, easy to sail platform. For the more experience racer she’s a fast, responsive racing dinghy. Although a “one class design” the rules allow a variety of cockpit layouts and construction materials.
An Introduction to the Streaker
The Streaker dinghy is a single-handed sailing dinghy that is designed for both recreational sailing and competitive racing. It is primarily targeted towards adult sailors, although it can be sailed by teenagers and older children as well. The Streaker offers a thrilling sailing experience and is known for its lively performance and versatility.
A Boat for all Conditions and Water states
The design of the Streaker dinghy features a hard chine hull with a relatively flat bottom and a single sail. It has a self-draining cockpit, making it suitable for sailing in a variety of conditions, including rough waters. The boat’s simplicity and manageable size make it easy to handle for solo sailors, and it can be launched and recovered without assistance.
Similar Single Handed Sailing Dinghies
While the Streaker dinghy has its own distinct characteristics, it shares some similarities with other single-handed dinghies such as the Laser and the Solo. These boats are also designed for solo sailing and are popular choices for both recreational sailors and competitive racers. However, each boat has its own unique design features and sailing characteristics. The Streaker make an excellent alternative for the smaller helm – ideally suited for sailors of 63kg to 83kg.
An Active UK Class Association
In the United Kingdom, the Streaker dinghy has gained a significant following and popularity among sailors. The Streaker Class Association, established in 1976, actively promotes and organizes racing events, championships, and social activities for Streaker owners and enthusiasts. The class has a strong presence in various regions across the UK, with a number of clubs offering Streaker racing and fleets.
While the Streaker may not have the same level of widespread recognition as some other dinghy classes, it has a loyal and dedicated following within the UK sailing community. Its popularity is reflected in the number of Streaker boats being sailed and the participation in Streaker events and regattas. The Streaker dinghy offers a competitive and enjoyable sailing experience for those who appreciate its performance and characteristics.
Streaker Portsmouth Yardstick
The Portsmouth Yardstick is used to calculate the performance of mixed classes of boats in a handicap race. The lower the PY the faster the boat. For illustration – a Dart 18 has a PY of 832, a Laser 1 ILCA7 has a PY of 1100 and a Topper has a PY of 1365. More information and later PY numbers can be found here – RYA PY
- Streaker PY number is currently 1128

If you can't find one here... try eBay
It might not be the first place that springs to mind when buying or selling a dinghy - but it's definitely worth looking. We've found some great boats on eBay. My last Topper Topaz Race X came from eBay and it was £400 cheaper than similar elsewhere. Click the banner below to browse the latest listings. People sometimes don't know precisely what it is they're selling ... try a few searches using different phrases. Start with the obvious - CLASS - eg. Laser or Topper or SuperNova etc.
